SwimSafer Singapore — Programme and Skills Guide

SwimSafer 2.0 is Singapore’s national swimming and water-safety programme. It develops swimming proficiency, personal water safety, survival skills, and related knowledge through six progressive stages. This page explains the programme and how to enquire about skills coaching; Singapore Swimming Lessons is not an official Sport Singapore or Singapore Aquatics website and does not claim affiliation with either organisation.

SwimSafer names, programme materials and official logos belong to their respective programme owners. Do not treat this website, its coaching enquiries, or any displayed programme reference as official registration, assessment, certification or endorsement. Verify current requirements and authorised providers directly through the official sources below.

For current syllabus, instructor, assessment, registration, quiz, and certificate information, use the official SportSG SwimSafer page. Official requirements can change and take precedence over this summary.

SwimSafer is one part of a broader safety approach. Families should also review our practical Singapore water safety guide covering supervision, pool rules, weather and emergency readiness.

The Six SwimSafer 2.0 Stages

  • Stage 1 — Introduction to Water Skills: confidence and independence, movement, entry and exit, and personal water safety
  • Stage 2 — Fundamental Water Skills: further movement, sculling, underwater skills, personal water safety, and continuous swimming
  • Stage 3 — Personal and Stroke Development Skills: stroke development, entry skills, underwater skills, personal flotation device use, and longer continuous swimming
  • Stage 4 — Bronze: personal survival and stroke-improvement skills
  • Stage 5 — Silver: further stroke efficiency, distance, diving fundamentals, and survival skills
  • Stage 6 — Gold: advanced stroke efficiency, distance, survival, rescue, and knowledge components

The official programme indicates approximately 12 hours of lesson time per stage, but preparation time and assessment readiness vary by participant. Do not rely on a promise that a stage can be completed in a fixed number of private lessons.

School and Private Enrolment Routes

Primary-school participants can enquire through their school. Private participants can register through an accredited SwimSafer instructor and the applicable official assessment system. Current CAMS registration, theory-quiz, assessment-validation, and certificate procedures should be checked on the official SportSG page.

SportSG states that SwimSafer instruction and assessment require specific valid credentials. Before purchasing SwimSafer-specific coaching, verify that the assigned instructor holds the credentials required for the service being offered. General swimming coaching must not be described as official SwimSafer instruction or assessment unless those requirements are met.

Skills Preparation Enquiries

If your child is preparing for a stage, provide the current stage, previous certificates or assessment feedback, swimming ability, theory-quiz status where relevant, preferred pool, and intended assessment route. We will check whether an appropriately qualified coach and suitable lesson arrangement are available.

A preparation lesson can focus on observed skill gaps, but it cannot guarantee assessment registration, readiness, passing, or certification. Official assessment requests require the applicable validation and registration process.

Lesson Rates

Where suitable preparation coaching is available, the current kids four-lesson package rates are:

  • 1-to-1 coaching: $280
  • 1-to-2 coaching: $190 per person
  • 1-to-3 or more: $140 per person

Kids lessons are listed as 45 minutes. Confirm coach credentials, programme scope, pool, schedule, official registration or assessment costs, package validity, and cancellation terms before payment. See the full fees page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is SwimSafer compulsory for every primary-school child?

MOE states that primary schools use the SportSG programme to equip students with swimming and water-survival skills, typically through school arrangements. Ask your child’s school about its current participation, schedule, stage, and remediation process rather than relying on a blanket claim about one required certificate.

Can a child skip stages?

The official SportSG FAQ says a service provider or instructor can assess a participant with swimming experience and advise accordingly. Confirm the current registration and assessment rules through the official channel.

How many lessons are needed?

There is no responsible universal estimate. It depends on the stage, current skills, theory knowledge, attendance, practice, and assessment criteria.

Do you conduct official assessments?

Do not assume that a coaching enquiry includes an official assessment. The assigned instructor, assessor, venue, and registration must meet current SportSG requirements and be explicitly confirmed.
