Special Needs Swimming Lessons Singapore

Singapore Swimming Lessons considers swimming enquiries for children and adults who may need additional support, including learners with developmental, sensory, communication, cognitive, or physical differences. Suitability depends on the individual learner, the available coach, the pool environment, support needs, and relevant professional advice.

An Individual Suitability Discussion

Before accepting a booking, we need to understand the learner’s age, communication style, mobility, sensory preferences, swimming experience, behaviour around water, medical or safety considerations, goals, and the support a caregiver can provide.

Listing a diagnosis does not confirm that a particular coach, programme, or pool will be suitable. We do not provide aquatic therapy or medical treatment. Seek advice from an appropriate healthcare or allied-health professional where the learner’s condition may affect safe participation.

How Lessons May Be Adapted

  • Clear, concise instructions or visual demonstrations
  • A predictable lesson sequence
  • Additional processing or transition time
  • Gradual introduction to the pool environment
  • Adapted equipment where appropriate and permitted
  • More frequent breaks
  • Coordination with a parent, caregiver, or support person

The actual approach depends on the coach’s competencies and the learner’s needs. Ask which coach would be assigned and request evidence of relevant qualifications or experience if this matters to your decision.

Lesson Formats and Fees

Sessions are listed as 30 minutes. Current four-lesson package rates:

  • 1-to-1 coaching: $320
  • 1-to-2 coaching: $220 per person

One-to-two coaching is considered only where the learners’ abilities, needs, goals, supervision requirements, and pool environment are compatible. Review the full fees page and confirm all booking terms before payment.

Pool and Caregiver Considerations

A quieter pool may help some learners but may not be suitable or available for everyone. Potential venues include selected condominium, public, hotel, club, or private pools, subject to access, accessibility, venue rules, coach availability, and safety assessment.

A parent, caregiver, or support person may need to remain poolside or participate, depending on the learner and venue. Confirm this before the first lesson. Explore condo swimming lesson options.

Water Safety

Swimming lessons do not make a learner drown-proof. Appropriate adult supervision and any individual support plan remain important around water outside lessons. Tell us about wandering, seizures, swallowing difficulties, mobility limitations, previous incidents, or other factors that may affect risk, and seek professional advice where appropriate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a learner with autism take swimming lessons?

Possibly. Autism is diverse, so suitability must be considered individually based on communication, sensory needs, behaviour around water, supervision, coach competencies, and the pool environment.

Do you teach adults who need additional support?

Enquiries are welcome. We will discuss the adult learner’s needs and check whether an appropriate coach and arrangement are available.

Is a diagnosis or medical report required?

Share information necessary for safe and appropriate participation. Additional professional clearance or documentation may be requested when relevant to the learner’s condition or venue requirements.

Will a parent or caregiver be present?

This is decided during the suitability discussion and may change as the coach learns more about the learner’s needs.
