Central Singapore: Jalan Besar, Lavender and Farrer Park
Swimming Lessons at Jalan Besar
Tell us the learner’s age, ability and goals, and the times you can realistically commit to.
Jalan Besar Swimming Complex sits beside Jalan Besar Stadium, a short walk from several MRT lines. Its central location suits city-fringe families, and adults who want to learn before or after work without travelling out to the heartlands.

Swimming Lessons at Jalan Besar: A Central Pool for Busy People
Jalan Besar is one of the few public pools near the city centre. That makes it a natural fit for office workers who want to fit a lesson around the day, and for families in the city-fringe estates who do not want a long trip out to the heartlands.
About the Pool
ActiveSG lists Jalan Besar Swimming Complex at 100 Tyrwhitt Road, with one competition pool, one teaching pool and one wading pool. It is operated by Jalan Besar Sport Centre, alongside the stadium (ActiveSG: Jalan Besar Swimming Complex; ActiveSG: Jalan Besar Sport Centre). A teaching pool is a helpful setting for beginners.
Our existing page lists Lavender (East-West Line), Jalan Besar and Bendemeer (Downtown Line) and Farrer Park (North East Line) as nearby stations.
Who It Suits
- Working adults: adult lessons (12+, 45 minutes) for beginners or stroke improvement; many prefer private lessons to fix a regular time. Women can ask about ladies’ lessons.
- City-fringe families: toddler lessons (2 to 4, 30 minutes) and kids lessons (5 to 11, 45 minutes); see SwimSafer.
- Extra support: special-needs lessons (30 minutes) after a suitability discussion.
- Central condo residents: if your own pool disallows outside coaches, this is an alternative; otherwise see condo swimming lessons.
Each package is four lessons, one-to-one, one-to-two or small group. See the fees page.
What to Expect on the First Lesson
Arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to pay admission and change; if coming from the office, pack toiletries so you are not rushed afterwards. The coach asks about experience and comfort, then starts with breathing, floating and safe movement before strokes. Bring swimsuit, goggles, cap if required, towel, water and a change of clothes. Parents remain responsible for children before and after class. Check ActiveSG for current closures before you travel.

Any of the four listed above, whichever suits your route.
Can a colleague and I share a coach?
Yes if you are at a similar level; a one-to-two package lowers the cost per person.
